I have decided to do my art investigation project on Chris Ofili. I really liked the message he was sending through his painting "The Holy Virgin Mary". Also I like his life story, which makes me appreciate his art work and the message he sends through his art work more. I will also be giving my own review over that piece of work and try to find a second piece of work from him that the class has not seen. I liked how much controversy this particular piece of art caused. You have to really understand him and his back ground to truly understand the messages he is trying to convey in his art work. This is the Artist and piece of work I have chosen to do my ART PROJECT on.

Final Art Presentation

I plan to complete my final presentation on John T. Biggers. I am going to discuss how he began as an artist, the types of works (related to what we have learned) he has completed, and the legacy he has left behind right here in Houston, TX.

for my project I will try to explain why is Pablo Picasso's les demoiselles d'avignon so famous and so important in the creation of cubism. I will also discuss some of the other forms of arts that influenced the outcome of this painting as well as the origins and the preliminary sketches.

Diego Rivera is a Mexican artist which I have chosen due to his art style that demonstrates the struggles of mexican during revolution against the spanish. He shows the harsh times that mexicans had to endure and that is something that I have become interested in. He paints his political beliefs against the Mexican government and shows the cold truth that people were afraid of speaking against the Mexican government.

For your final project you are to research an artist or topic that we have covered in class so far. If you would like to choose another topic ok it with me first. You will research your topic and present a short 5 minute lesson about your topic you will also turn in a 2 page paper that shows your research and supports you ideas.

John T. Biggers Expressed a visual record of the person he drew. he also used the method hatching to darken and lighten certain areas. the art is called "Morning is here No Dawn", from the title i can inferthat he was sad or knew someone that was sad.

Trenton Doyle Hancock

I like Trenton Doyle Hancock's work because of his hidden messages in his artwork. I feel that he is letting his fans in on his thinking process and feelings when he writes the words on his work. In this drawing, I think he is drawing it for someone he was once close to and he misses. He is doing it "in memory" of them.

R. Crumb

R. Crumb was a troubled kid growing up. He never fit in anywhere and his family was always moving from town to town because of his dad's military job. When looking at his drawings, I can see his troubled past coming through in his comic strips. They are volgure and some are rude but it reflects him because of his life. I do, however, appreciate his work because of the detail that goes into it. His drawings are very detailed and he seems to take a lot of time creating his characters. He respects them and it's obvious to see.

Mathew Collings

I think the more modern of art becomes, the more gets simple and elegant. In the past, there wasn't a lot of technique to "decorate" for a picture or a painting, but a artist use drawings and colors to make their pictures stand out. Unlike today, artists have different ways of printing to have the best value on their work, and different tools to improve their work. It's even more interesting how art can relate to a lot of things, such as nature. Out of painting and drawing, art can be create with stone, diamond, and many more things to have more interesting look.

Julie Merehtu

This lady is so unique and is a product of Art + Culture. I love the acrylic paint she used. Ms. Julie Merehtu is really excellent and creative in motion. When Im looking at this particular piece, I can see fun, excitement and movement I think that her work is 100 per cent 21st century!              

Julie Mehretu

Julie Mehretu is an artist from Ethiopia. Using acrylic paint, ink, and pencil she has created some beautiful pieces of art. In a her pieces you can see all different types of lines, colors, and shapes. I thought it was unique how she use the layering technique. This is what someone said about her paintings and I couldnt agree more. "Her paintings present a tornado of visual incident where gridded cities become fluid and flattened, like many layers of urban graffiti". Julie's paintings reminds me of Jackson Pollock's art. The confused lines make your eyes wander all over the pieces.

Julie Mehretu

Julie Mehretu was born in Ethiopia and raised in michigan. Her works of art depict cities, urben environments, and other strucutres. She takes the structures or environments and dipicts them as abstract works of art that are fluid instead of ridged and gridded. She uses Acrylic paint, ink, and pencil as her mediums. Acrylic paint enables her to make layers of paint and creates texture in her art because it is not re-hydratable and once it has dried it can be re painted over again with out making the colors run together, and builds on top of itself creating texture. This helps her create a feeling that a city is more then just one layer and is made up of multiple things such as people. The layers she makes with the paint allow her to illustrate the many different things that make up a city or environment. (Ex: The Dense population) Acrylic paint is also very useful in mix media which Mehretu takes advantage of when she uses ink and pencil as her other mediums of choice. Once acrylic paint is dry it allows the artist to draw over it with different mediums such as the ink and pencil Mehretu uses in her paintings. Being able to use different mediums on top of the acrylic paint enables Mehretu to be able to add line to her paintings and to make movement in her painting that bring the movement of the city to life in her paintings with her lines drawn with ink and paint. Also, she uses ink and pencils to depict different aspects of the envirnoment she is trying to encompass. She captures the speed of the city with all her crazy lines and the way she makes movement in her paintings with the lines she draws out of ink and pencil. With the mediums she uses she can create movement and emotions in her art work. Her abstrat art allows people to look at every day places like cities in a way we never have before.
